I marvel at the low-hanging trend hitting Dublin venues. The museum hang – intended for large blank walls, no skirting board and small paintings is being used throughout installations in somewhat more diminutive circumstances. In the case of large wall works, basing the hang on eye-level along the top edge of the work is fruitless as you are left with the work resting on the floor or very close to it. As well as that, any definition that you could glean from the lower third of the work is lost. I won’t mention names but anyone who has seen the shows will know what I mean.
